How do I resize an image to 1080x1350?
The tallest a feed will show you whole
Social feeds cap how tall a post can be, because an unlimited one would fill the screen and push everything else out of the way. 4:5 is where that cap sits on the platforms that matter, and 1080 × 1350 is that ratio at the resolution phones display well.
The consequence is worth stating plainly: post something taller and it is cropped, by the platform, from the centre, without warning. People discover this when their carefully composed vertical shot appears in the feed with the subject’s feet missing.
Why portrait rather than square
A 4:5 post occupies roughly a quarter more vertical screen space than a 1:1 one at the same width. On a phone, where the whole experience is a vertical scroll, that is the difference between a post someone passes and a post that fills their view.
It is not a free win. A wide subject in a tall frame leaves large empty regions, and a profile grid that mixes squares and portraits looks unconsidered. The shape should follow the photograph.
Cropping down from a phone photo
A phone shooting 4:3 in portrait gives you 3:4, which is slightly wider than 4:5, so the crop is small — a thin strip off each side. That is the easy case and most people will not notice it happened.
Coming from a landscape photograph is a different matter: you are keeping a tall slice of a wide picture, and most of the frame goes. Drag the crop frame to whichever part carries the subject before pressing the button, because the centre of a landscape shot is very often not where the subject is.
Or keep the whole picture
When the photograph genuinely does not survive the crop, pad it instead. The border tool will place any image on a 1080×1350 canvas, centred, with a colour of your choosing behind it — nothing is removed, and the picture simply appears smaller inside a coloured frame.
That style is common enough to read as deliberate rather than as a mistake, particularly with a white or off-white background. It costs frame area; it keeps the composition.
Start from the biggest original you have
1350 pixels is not very tall by modern standards, so almost any photo straight off a phone has more than enough to work with. What does not is an image that has already been through a messaging app, which has usually been reduced and compressed once already — resizing that gives you a soft result no setting here can recover.
Neighbouring sizes: 1080 × 1080 if a square suits the photograph better, and 1080 × 1920 if it is going to a story rather than a feed. Cropping to 4:5 sets the shape without fixing the pixel count.

- Why 1080 × 1350 rather than something taller?
- Because 4:5 is where most feeds stop. A post taller than that gets cropped by the platform to fit its layout, and the crop is taken from the middle without asking. 1080×1350 is the largest portrait that is displayed whole, which is why it occupies more of a phone screen than a square post while still being shown in full.
- My photo is 9:16. What happens?
- It is considerably taller than 4:5, so a band comes off the top and bottom. That is usually the right trade for a feed post — but if the composition depends on the full height, either post it as a story at 1080×1920 instead, or keep it whole and pad it out to 4:5 with a background.
- Is a portrait post better than a square one?
- It occupies more of the screen, which is a real advantage in a scrolling feed. It is not universally better: a wide subject in a tall frame wastes most of the extra height, and a set of posts that mixes shapes looks inconsistent on a profile grid. Choose by what the photograph is, not by the number.
- Can I add a file size limit?
- Yes, under Advanced options. The dimensions become a floor the compression may not go below, so you get exactly 1080×1350 at the best quality that fits your limit rather than a smaller image that fits more easily.
